Мы, ниже подписавшиеся 259 членов мирового научного сообщества, глубокообеспокоены действиями представителей прокуратуры города Санкт-Петербурга 4декабря 2008 во время обыска помещения Научно-информационного центра «Мемориал»в Санкт-Петербурге, ул. Рубинштейна 23-105. При обыске был изъят электронныйархив Центра.
НИЦ «Мемориал» известен во всем мире как центр исследования сталинскихрепрессий, ГУЛага, и истории неофициальных движений в СССР в 1950-х-1980-хгодах. Сотрудники НИЦ «Мемориал» восстановили судьбы тысяч граждан СССР идругих стран, ставших жертвами репрессий в 1930-е-1950-е годы. Многие из наслично знакомы с сотрудниками «Мемориала» или пользовались архивом организации.
При обыске были изъяты 11 жестких дисков. На этих дисках – базы данных,содержащие биографические справки более 50 000 жертв сталинских репрессий;результаты поиска нескольких сотен местзахоронения жертв репрессий; коллекция (более 10 000 изображений и текстов) «ВиртуальногоМузея Гулага», уникального веб-ресурса, объединяющего более ста региональных российскихмузеев. Также были изъяты большая база данных к архиву устной истории иэлектронная коллекция фотографий, включая отсканированные материалы из частныхархивов. Более того, следователи конфисковали жесткий диск и документы,принадлежащие искусствоведу Александру Марголису, сотруднику «Мемориала» идиректору «Международного благотворительного фондаспасения Санкт-Петербурга-Ленинграда», известному выступлениями взащиту архитектурного наследия города.
Под угрозой уничтожения находится уникальная коллекция, - результат20-летней работы. Она бесценна для будущих поколений исследователей во всеммире.
Мы чрезвычайно возмущены таким обращением с результатами научныхисследований и исследователями. Мы обращаемся к Вам с настоятельным требованиемне допустить уничтожения уникального исторического архива. Единственнымправильным поступком может быть немедленное возвращение изъятого законнымвладельцам.
